Linz’s inhabitants will have a significant contribution to make to the Culture Capital’s success. “Wir”, Linz09’s language guide, is designed to prevent hospitality from foundering on the rocks of linguistic barriers.
Taxi drivers, policewomen and men, restaurant staff, etc. – they will all contribute to Linz09’s host role and help to make the city better known, more popular and even more attractive – with potentially lasting effect. To prevent linguistic problems from interfering with Linz’s hospitality and to inform the many visitors we are expecting from other countries about the Capital of Culture in their own languages, we are publishing the Linz09 language guide “Wir”, which has been prepared in collaboration with Upper Austria’s Chamber of Commerce.“Wir” has been designed as a kind of “first aid” manual to facilitate basic exchanges between visitors and hosts. In addition to the most frequently used phrases in English, Czech, Slovenian, Hungarian, Italian, Polish, French, Dutch and Spanish the “Wir” booklet also provides basic facts about the respective countries, which should help break the ice in conversations.
