Workshop in Conjunction with “The Curious Museum”
A two-day workshop was recently held in conjunction with “The Curious Museum,” a Linz09 pre-project. Astrid Windtner of Linz’s Lentos Museum of Art reports.
“The Curious Museum,” a pre-project initiated by the Lentos Museum of Art, has gotten off to an auspicious start. 16 creative professionals involved in various aspects of the art world and cultural life in Austria and other countries were invited to attend an initial two-day workshop and to scrutinize what is currently being offered by art institutions in Linz. The aim is to do some serious reflecting about the Lentos and its concept based on consideration of the unique features of cultural life in Linz.Inspection tours and a series of talks were organized to acquaint attendees with local facts and circumstances and with Linz’s identity. Day 1 activities included tours of the Lentos Museum of Art and the Gallery of the Province of Upper Austria, a round of talks in Transpublic, an outing on the narrow-gauge railway to the top of Linz’s Pöstlingberg, a lively round of discussions in Transpublic and a visit to the “Is Franckviertel Beautiful?” event staged by Linz09.
A chat with Martin Heller in the Lentos kicked off Day 2. This was followed by tours of the VOEST steel mill and the Linz Art University. Viewing these diverse highlights of the cityscape and being briefed by some of Linz’s cultural movers and shakers enabled participants to get a dynamic, multidimensional picture of the art scene and cultural life in Linz and to work out important cultural points of identification. The ideas and suggestions for the Lentos that emerged from this session will now be refined and ultimately presented to the public in conjunction with the next workshop set for June 1, 2007.
