The EU received birthday cakes from all over Europe to mark its 50th anniversary. A greeting from Linz was among them.
On March 25, the heads of state and heads of government of the members of the European Union gathered in Berlin to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Treaties of Rome and thus the EU’s 50th birthday. And the 27 member states also sent along birthday cakes, one of which was a Linzer torte. These cakes, in all their different forms and flavors, are emblematic of Europe’s amazing diversity, which will be reflected in the Capital of Culture year festivities in 2009 in Linz.
