2009 as Tourism Milestone
The Linz Tourism Conference convened on March 21 in the Design Center.
The 2nd Linz Tourism Conference held under the aegis of Tourismusverband Linz, the city’s official tourism marketing organization, attracted 250 visitors to the Design Center on March 21, and the spotlight was on the 2009 Capital of Culture year as the major upcoming milestone. Mayor Franz Dobusch’s remarks focused on the city’s planned construction of cultural facilities, all of which will be completed by 2009. He pointed out that it was precisely these infrastructural measures to which the Capital of Culture year could impart a major impetus. The city also unveiled its tourism concept for 2008-2011. One of its aims is to strengthen the tourism consciousness of citydwellers in light of a survey which indicates that only two-thirds of the population consider the city attractive for tourists. Accordingly, the Capital of Culture year is just the right major event that gives Linz both the opportunity to raise its recognition level in Europe as well as to do an image makeover and a substantive repositioning as a premiere destination in Austria.
