Linz09 at the ITB
The City of Linz and Linz09 recently teamed up for a public appearance at the ITB, the world’s largest tourism trade fair.
Along with Pécs, Hungary and Germany’s Ruhr District—the joint capitals of culture in 2010—Linz09 went to Berlin to meet and greet industry professionals, media people and lots and lots of visitors. Linz09 was one of the featured attractions at Austria's booth. A panel discussion brought together Linz09 Deputy Artistic Director Ulrich Fuchs, Jürgen Fischer, the head of Ruhr 2010’s Capital of Culture bureau, and Pécs 2010 Artistic Director Márton Méhes to discuss “Industry, Culture, Tourism - Linz, Essen and Pécs on the Way to Capital of Culture Years 2009 and 2010.” Ulrich Fuchs presented some of the program’s first projects, stressing that Linz09 placed great importance on innovation and radicalization of content. By branding the name “Ruhr 2010,” Essen aims to “found the 21st century’s first metropolis,” according to Jürgen Fischer. And Márton Méhes indicated that Pécs sees itself as the gateway to the Balkans with a good mixture of Western and Eastern culture on tap for 2010.Besides attending the ACTB 2007 in January, this appearance at the ITB was Linz09’s first major tourism showcase.
