The accent is on design in Linz09’s autumn lineup. We’ve already spotlighted THE “CASE” OF FORUM DESIGN exhibition and the big DESIGNLAND project in the last issue of our newsletter. But the focus won’t just be on historic events and top-name designers; we’re featuring leading-edge trends too. So remember: It pays to pay a call on Linz, and the train affords an affordable way to get here!
Linz has a vibrant design scene—though that seems to be the best-kept secret in town! The task of doing something about this has been assigned to Designforum Linz, a coalition of Upper Austrian designers whose aim is to raise public awareness of design. For starters, an exhibition entitled DESIGNJUNGLE set in an old warehouse on Pfarrplatz is featuring more than 50 outstanding works of industrial design—a show that just goes to show how well-established design excellence truly is in Upper Austria. The objects on display include dishes, cutlery & glassware, fashion accessories and sports equipment. There’s furniture you just might recognize. And, of course, stuff like ski bindings that have been manufactured by the millions!In addition to outstanding Upper Austrian designers, international stars such as Gijs Bakker, Volker Albus, Cornel Windlin and Konstantin Grcic will visit Linz for some fascinating Q&A in KEPLER SALON. And now, there’s a terrific—and economical—way to get to Linz to take in these events: the ÖBB–Austrian Federal Railways’ Eventticket.
