The Dead Puppet Theatre in Linz
Roman Paska: SCHULJUNGENSPIEL oder ES GIBT KEIN SUBJEKT
Copyright: Robin Nilssen
A production being staged in conjunction with the DOPPELGÄNGER theater festival posits the construction of an extraordinary personal relationship: Could it have been possible that Hitler and Wittgenstein were acquainted? Sounds a bit cryptic? Just you wait!
Adolf Hitler and Ludwig Wittgenstein attended the same Linz school at the same time. Over the years, there’s been speculation about whether they ever met or had anything to do with one another. No evidence exists; nevertheless, Roman Paska, the American director of the Dead Puppet Theatre, takes this speculative relationship as the point of departure of his “SCHULJUNGENSTÜCK oder DAS SUBJEKT GIBT ES NICHT” (Schoolboy Play or There Is No Subject). In this production, two puppets, Hitler and Wittgenstein, create a bizarre fantasy world in search of their own identity.Linz09 is holding a drawing for tickets to the performance on October 20, 2009. To enter, send an e-mail with “Schuljungenstück” in the subject line to gewinnspiel@linz09.at. The entry deadline is October 15, 2009. Winners will be notified by e-mail.
