Brass and Woodwind Instrumental Music through the Centuries
Copyright: Kurt Groh / Linz09
Brass and woodwind music is an artform with deep roots in Austria. The “Wood&Brass” project invites you to take a musical tour through Linz - from the Castle via Pfarrplatz Square and the Ursulinenhof cultural center to Schloss Ebelsberg, into an Austrian Federal Railways workshop and around the grounds of the voestalpine steel mill.
This journey begins in the time of the Roman Empire, when horns were presumably used to send out resounding signals from Schlossberg hill. Then it’s on to Pfarrplatz for medieval music followed by the sounds of the Baroque. The final destination of this musical excursion through the centuries is a voestalpine steel plant - an extraordinary setting for modern music. In the company of guides, tour participants can either walk or travel by bus from stop to stop on the tour’s itinerary. Every piece of music along the way was commissioned expressly for “Wood&Brass.” Following the two-hour tour, group members are invited to reassemble at the Castle for a concluding concert.Wood&Brass
