The disparities between what is “ones own” and what is “foreign,” conflict that emerges from tradition and convention, and the boundary separating a religious world view from a secular one are at the center of Kutlug Ataman’s films, videos and photography.This exhibition at the Lentos focuses on upheavals in Turkey over recent decades and the tension between East and West. As Turkey’s most internationally successful artist, Kutlug Ataman gives particular attention to consideration of a question posed very frequently in his homeland: Europe’s geographical, cultural, ideational and ideological borders.
