Theatre Mania1 Brings Impressive Theatrical Art to Linz
Copyright: Linz09
Right at the outset of the Capital of Culture year, a storm will be raging across Linz stages and blowing a breath of fresh air into the local theatrical scene.
A performance of “Triptych of Power” on Tuesday, January 13, 2009 launches “Theatre Mania1: Snowstorm,” an international theater and dance festival. The triptych’s first element is Guy Cassiers’ sensitive staging of “Mefisto for ever“ in Hafenhalle09. This will be followed by performances of “Wolfskers” and “Atropa. Avenging Peace” in the Landestheater.Theatre Mania1 will follow up its tempestuous debut with a lineup full of highlights. Jérôme Bel’s “The Show Must Go On” is an impressive and, by now, almost legendary stage performance featuring radical re-interpretations of cult hit songs. Theatre Eisenhand will host the German-language premiere of “Territories,” Betty Shamieh’s new play that deals with religious conflicts along with gender politics. “36, Avenue Georges Mandel”—the title being the address of Maria Callas’ last apartment—is a sensitive treatment of the brilliant artist by German choreographer Raimund Hoghe, who celebrated his stage debut at the age of 45 and was honored as Dancer of the Year in 2008. Indian author and solo performer Arjun Raina did intensive research on Linz during two extended stays in this city. The results will be on display at the world premiere of “Ecdysis – The Snake Sheds Its Skin,” a portrait of Linz’s Indian soul.
An array of impressive performances will be staged in conjunction with “Theatre Mania1.” For details, go to Theatre Mania1: Snowstorm.
