Best of Austria: The Crème de la Crème of Art in Austria

Lively discussions have been prompted by the “Best of Austria” exhibition in the Lentos Museum of Modern Art Linz. What criteria do works of art have to fulfill to be designated “the best”? And who’s qualified to pass these judgments? Join the debate!
To put together an art collection that does justice to a European Capital of Culture, Lentos Museum of Modern Art Linz and Linz09 organized a collection drive. What they’ve come up with is an extremely impressive exhibition. More than 30 Austrian museums, foundations and corporate collections have each made available three works that are now on display in Linz. The matter of selecting the works that would make it into the “Best of Austria” canon was intentionally left up to the participants themselves.Ranging clear across the stylistic spectrum and along a timeline of many centuries, the works on display showcase this country’s extraordinarily diverse art treasures. “Best of Austria” will run through May 10th in the Lentos Museum of Modern Art Linz.
