It was Dr. Josef Pühringer, governor of Upper Austria, who approached EU Commissioner Benita Ferrero-Waldner with a very special request: to serve as goodwill ambassador in Brussels for Linz 2009, European Capital of Culture.
During her visit to Upper Austria on Thursday, May 29, Commissioner Ferrero-Waldner got together with Governor Pühringer for a meeting followed by a joint press conference. The governor invited Europe’s top diplomat to pay a call on Linz again next year and to represent the 2009 European Capital of Culture as goodwill ambassador in Brussels. He presented her with a Linz09 lapel pin as well as a copy of the new Programme Book 2/3 containing rundowns on about 150 Linz09 projects.
