The 2007 Pflasterspektakel, Linz’s International Festival of Street Art, is Going Green

This year, Pflasterspektakel organizers are putting special emphasis on environmental protection and sustainability.
Linz will stage its 21st street art extravaganza July 19-21. Approximately 600 artists from 40 countries will turn downtown Linz into an alfresco stage. Linz Kultur, the municipal bureau in charge of these grand-scale festivities, is developing measures to make this year's Pflasterspektakel a green event. All around downtown, Linz AG, the city’s provider of municipal services, will be setting up model waste collection stations designed to acquaint the public with the concepts behind and objectives of an ecological, sustainable resource recycling program, and to foster greater awareness of the green event idea. At the same time, the Austrian Ecology Institute will be conducting on-site surveys—for example, inquiring about the use of bicycles as a means of transportation to such events. The aim is to develop standards for environmental protection and sustainability for implementation during upcoming major events in conjunction with the Capital of Culture year. For details, go to www.pflasterspektakel.at
