Since 2008, Linz’s PIXELHOTEL has offered an exciting alternative to run-of-the-mill accommodations. A creatively renovated back-street garage, a riverboat and a gallery are a few of the settings. The most extraordinary spots to spend the night in Linz are named Pixel on the Courtyard, Pixel in the Garden, Pixel in the Textilpassage, Pixel on the Water, Pixel in the Volksküche and Pixel in the Gallery. First of all, a team of architects scoured the city to discover interesting spaces to convert into one-room hotels. Then lots of creativity went into the design and decor. The result: one-of-a-kind interior spaces that put a whole new spin on transient accommodations. For instance, Pixel on the Courtyard’s centerpiece is a trailer; at Pixel in the Textilpassage, the bed is on a floating island; and the furnishings in Pixel in the Volksküche are all clad in Eternit tiles. The terrific response on the part of guests has confirmed the brilliance of the developers’ concept; accordingly, PIXELHOTEL will remain in operation beyond the Capital of Culture year.
